The physical therapist today said that I might be able to graduate to a cane next week. That would be nice. The walker has provided great stability, but it's cumbersome. If I can manage to feel secure using a cane, I'd prefer to do that. We shall see!
My regular physical therapist, Dr. Herren, had other clients today so I got to see another physical therapist, Rob. He was young but seemed very nice and was sympathetic toward my aches and pains. An hour workout twice a week may not seem like much to some people, but when you're recovering from surgery, it's a challenge. I wish my insurance covered more of the cost, however. These physical therapy sessions are getting to be expensive.
Initially I was told I would need 6 weeks of therapy. I wonder if that's all the insurance covers or if that's a standard protocol for most patients who've had knee replacement surgery. Though therapy is difficult, I know it's necessary to help me get back to walking normally again.
I'm wearing a brace for foot drop that was developed after surgery. Hopefully we can get that corrected through therapy.
The pain medication makes me extremely sleepy. Every time after I take it I want to just curl up in a ball and go to sleep. It must be some strong stuff!
Since 4th of July is tomorrow, I get a break from surgery the rest of this week. I'm thankful for that but we'll have to do my exercises at home so that I don't get stiff before next session.
